You then meet your driver, who takes you in comfort to your hotel in Amman. Use the rest of the day to arrive at your own pace, settle into your 2-bedroom suite and recover from the journey.

In the evening, you can look ahead together to the days to come – your family trip through a land of history, desert landscapes and sea is just beginning.

Day 2

Experience Amman – Views, old town and a culinary discovery tour

Panoramic view of Amman’s Roman Theater and surrounding city buildings under a clear sky

Points of Interest : Amman

Today you discover Jordan from the vibrant side of its capital, with a day full of views, history and delicious surprises.

Together with your German-speaking guide, you first head up to the Citadel, perched on one of Amman’s seven hills. From here you enjoy a spectacular panorama: pale cube-shaped houses clinging to the slopes and slender minarets rising into the blue sky.

You then walk down through narrow lanes and colorful streets into the old town to the famous Roman Theater right in the heart of the city, an impressive stone structure that still evokes stories from the past.

Next comes a special highlight: a culinary walking tour through Amman’s old town. You stroll across Souq Al-Sukar, where piles of dates, fragrant spices, nuts and fresh fruit create a vibrant scene. Along the way you sample local specialties such as crispy falafel, creamy hummus, the national dish mansaf, sweet kunafeh, freshly pressed juices and traditional Arabic ice cream to cool off.

There is time for coffee or tea and for pausing to soak up the colors, sounds and aromas of this fascinating city. Culture and cuisine go hand in hand, and younger travelers can discover Amman with all their senses.

Day 3

Romans, clay and country air – A day of history and handicraft

Family walking along a colonnaded Roman street in Jerash, Jordan, under a bright blue sky

Points of Interest : Jerash

Your adventure truly gets going today as you drive to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy. With your German-speaking guide you discover mighty arches, broad colonnaded streets and ancient theaters where gladiators once performed – and there is always a chance to test the echo in the stands.

In spring, Jerash is surrounded by lush green and the ruins look almost like something out of an illustrated history book.

After this journey back in time, you continue into the countryside around Jerash for a special rural experience. In a 140-year-old stone farmhouse, overlooking fields and olive trees, you are warmly welcomed by a local farmer.

Now it is time to roll up your sleeves: you learn how simple clay is shaped into bowls and cups and create your own piece – perhaps a mug, a bowl or a little figure. Every family member can make and paint a unique souvenir.

After the pottery session, you sit down to a tasty traditional farm meal from the region, freshly prepared and wholesome. Anyone who wishes can even dress in the traditional clothing of a Jerash farmer – perfect for a fun family photo with countryside views.

An unforgettable day that blends history, craftsmanship, nature and genuine hospitality.

Mosaics, castles and mountains – Along the King’s Highway to Little Petra

View over Madaba’s St. George’s Church interior with the ancient mosaic map on the floor

Points of Interest : Mount Nebo, Madaba, Karak, Little Petra

Your day begins in Madaba, the famous “city of mosaics”. In St. George’s Church you discover a remarkable ancient map made from millions of tiny stone tiles and more than 1,400 years old. Children can have fun spotting the Dead Sea or Jerusalem on the map.

You then continue to Mount Nebo, from where, according to tradition, Moses first saw the Promised Land. On clear days you can see all the way to Israel – a moving place with sweeping views and history close enough to touch.

Following the legendary King’s Highway, you drive on to the imposing Crusader castle of Karak. The vast fortress invites exploration and a bit of hide-and-seek – who will find a secret passage first?

Further south you traverse the Dana nature reserve, where the scenery shifts dramatically: rolling hills, deep valleys and wide horizons alternate along the way.

In the evening you reach Little Petra, where a memorable night between rocky outcrops and desert silence awaits. It is a perfect spot for family time beneath a glittering starry sky.

  • Accommodation : Little Petra Bedouin Camp (family tent)
Day 5

Exploring Petra – The rock-carved world wonder

View from inside the narrow Siq in Petra towards the illuminated façade of the Treasury

Points of Interest : Petra

Today a true highlight awaits: a visit to the world-famous rock city of Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a place that feels straight out of an adventure movie.

In the morning your driver collects you from the camp. Together with your German-speaking guide you dive into the secrets of the Nabataeans, the ancient people who carved this vast city directly into the red sandstone cliffs.

You walk through the Siq, a narrow, mysterious gorge, until suddenly the view opens onto Petra’s breathtaking Treasury. It is a goosebump moment for adults and children alike.

You then continue to explore ancient temples, tombs and decorated façades that tell stories of a long-lost era. There is plenty of time to marvel, ask questions, take photos or simply let the children play among the rocks in this extraordinary setting.

To round off the day, you might enjoy a cup of sweet Bedouin tea while the kids clamber over stones one last time or explore nearby rock formations.

For the way back, a golf cart is available so that tired legs can comfortably return to the visitor center.

Day 6

Rocks, dunes and desert sky – Adventure in Wadi Rum

Jeep driving across the red sand and rock formations of Wadi Rum desert under a clear evening sky

Points of Interest : Wadi Rum

Today you head into the spectacular Wadi Rum, one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in the world. Surrounded by golden-red rock walls, natural stone arches and fantastically shaped formations, your desert exploration begins.

A desert jeep takes you along sandy tracks and through wide valleys – a real adventure for explorers of all ages. Along the way there is much to see: ancient rock inscriptions, viewpoints, soft dunes perfect for climbing and, for those who wish, the chance to try sandboarding.

At midday a simple, freshly cooked meal is served for you right in the heart of nature, with expansive views over the endless desert.

In the late afternoon you arrive at your desert camp, where everything is prepared for a cozy evening. You enjoy a typical Bedouin dinner with regional specialties in an authentic atmosphere.

After dark, the stars shine brighter than almost anywhere else. Lie back, gaze at the sky and let the silence and vastness of the desert work their magic.

Before you say goodbye to the magic of the desert, a final special experience awaits. Each family member gets their own camel and you set off on a gentle ride through the dunes. Rocking along on these calm “ships of the desert”, you take in the impressive landscape – an unforgettable adventure, especially for children.

After the camel ride, you leave Wadi Rum and drive south to the Red Sea and the coastal town of Aqaba.

Here you can organize the next two days entirely at your own pace. Relax on the beach, splash about in the pools, snorkel in the colorful underwater world, stroll through the old town or try out water sports – there are options for every family member.

Your family-friendly hotel offers plenty of possibilities for relaxation and play, from children’s pools to direct access to the sea.

To the lowest point on Earth – Family time at the Dead Sea

Points of Interest : Dead Sea

Another highlight of your trip is on the program today. You leave Aqaba and drive through the impressive Wadi Araba desert, passing wide plains and rugged rock formations, until you reach the Dead Sea – the lowest point on Earth.

Here you experience a unique natural phenomenon: thanks to the high salt content of the water, you can float effortlessly on the surface without sinking, which is great fun for the whole family. Those who like can cover themselves in the famous mineral-rich mud right on the shore – a treat for the skin and a fun photo opportunity.

Your hotel offers relaxation for parents and lots of entertainment for children. In the water play areas kids can splash, spray and laugh, while you sit back and enjoy the one-of-a-kind view over the shimmering water and mountains beyond.

From start to finish, our 12-day journey planned with Katrin from Neos Travel was fantastic. We had unforgettable impressions and experiences. The pre-trip communication was excellent, and the accommodations were beautiful, with the exception of one hotel in Petra. We especially loved the resort in a converted stone village near Petra and the small, very unique and sustainable camp in Wadi Rum. Our driver Mohammad was outstanding—his care and stories enriched the trip, and he showed us places we would likely have missed if we had driven ourselves. Our guides also shared a lot of passion, showing us things that no travel guide would tell you. The Siq Trail and the White Dome Trail, led by our wonderful hiking guide Musa, were particularly impressive and adventurous. Ideal for anyone seeking a bit of adrenaline. We were glad to have two days set aside for Petra. The hike through the back door of Little Petra to the monastery was breathtaking. The hospitality and friendliness of the Jordanians are remarkable. A wonderful country with wonderful people and delicious food. Definitely worth the trip. We enjoyed every single day.

An absolutely wonderful, unforgettable vacation! Neos Travel organized everything superbly through Katrin. Everything was thoughtfully planned, and we could ask all of our many questions at any time and received prompt answers. Katrin took plenty of time for our questions and concerns and tailored everything to our needs. On site, everything ran smoothly; our driver Hussam was very kind and helpful and went above and beyond. The destinations were well chosen, and we will treasure this time in our hearts forever.

It was the first time we booked with a local agency. Neos Travel arranged everything through our local partner. In 11 days we could experience both the fascinating culture and the breathtaking landscapes. Our driver Laith was extremely reliable and took care of everything. Thank you, Laith — we felt very comfortable. Amman, the Desert Castles, Jerash, the Dead Sea, along the King's Highway to Petra and Wadi Rum. Perfect.

This 12-day Jordan itinerary covered many major sights as well as lesser-known gems. We formed our own group of four and had our own driver who spoke German and was available at all times. It was absolutely fantastic! All arranged by Neos Travel.

We really enjoyed Petra, the Dana Region for hiking, as well as Madaba and Jerash. For Petra, plan at least two days, ideally two and a half, as the light changes with the sun. Madaba deserves a full day to see the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Apostles' Church. Salt is also quite interesting, especially if you want to immerse yourself in daily life. Here's a tip: Salt is worth a visit for a glimpse into daily life; Wadi Rum is worth considering only if you plan to venture deep into it for several hours. With Neos Travel, the arrangement was basically fine. Unfortunately, the driver's English wasn't great, and the timing information (when and where to be) wasn't always clear and required several follow-ups, and Petra by Night wasn't possible in our window due to a multi-week festival. That said, we still had a wonderful trip with Neos Travel and would travel with them again.

We landed in Amman and began by exploring the north of Jordan, then the Dead Sea, and especially Wadi Mujib, followed by a drive to Dana for a long hike. Spending two days in Wadi Rum was worth it. The Red Sea offered a nice break before we traced biblical footsteps in Israel. Neos Travel helped tailor the itinerary and we felt well looked after throughout the trip.

Neos Travel arranged a completely tailor-made six-day private chauffeured tour through Jordan: starting in Amman and visiting Jerash, Mount Nebo, Wadi Mujib, Karak, Petra and Wadi Rum, with a very brief detour to Aqaba, and then northwest along the Wadi Araba to the Dead Sea. It was exactly what we wanted and more.
