At the second, artisans work with a potter’s wheel under a stilted family house, far from commercial souvenir shops. At the third site, a small family-run workshop produces clay stoves in a backyard factory. At both the second and third locations you can even try your hand at throwing a pot if you wish. Afterwards the tone turns more somber as you delve into Cambodia’s recent history. By tuk-tuk you head to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S‑21), a former school converted into a prison and torture center by the Khmer Rouge. The tour continues to Choeung Ek, better known as the Killing Fields, where thousands of people were executed and buried in mass graves – a powerful and moving memorial to the victims.
