    Discover Salvador da Bahia on your own

    Today is a full free day in Salvador, often called the colonial jewel of Brazil. Wander through Pelourinho, the atmospheric old town with its pastel-colored colonial houses, cobbled streets and ornate baroque churches that reflect Portuguese and Spanish influence.

    You can join a public rehearsal of the famous Olodum percussion group in Pelourinho to feel the rhythm of Salvador’s carnival culture. In the evening, watch the sun set over the “Baía de Todos os Santos” bay, perhaps with a caipirinha in hand at a viewpoint bar.     Onward to Lençóis in Chapada Diamantina

    After breakfast you are transferred to the bus terminal in Salvador to board a regular coach to Lençóis, the gateway town to Chapada Diamantina National Park. The journey of around five hours takes you inland through Bahia’s changing landscapes.

    On arrival in Lençóis, a local guide meets you at the terminal and accompanies you to your pousada. In the afternoon you enjoy a guided walking tour of Lençóis, learning about its diamond-mining past, local culture and distinctive colonial architecture as you stroll its narrow streets.

    Discover Brazil’s caves and rock formations

    Today you set out on a full-day nature excursion to some of the most impressive caves and rock formations in Chapada Diamantina. Much of the route is covered by vehicle, with several easy walks totaling about 5 km to reach scenic viewpoints and cave entrances.

    You visit the famed caves around Iraquara, where underground chambers and rock formations reveal the geological history of the region. You also head to Morro do Pai Inácio, an iconic tabletop mountain. From its summit you can enjoy sweeping views over the rugged plateaus and valleys that define the park, especially beautiful in the late afternoon light.

    Hike to Brazil’s highest waterfall

    Today you head to Cachoeira da Fumaça, considered Brazil’s highest waterfall in terms of drop. After a transfer by vehicle to the trailhead, you hike approximately 12 km in total across rocky terrain and open plateaus to reach the spectacular viewpoint above the falls.

    Depending on weather and season, the waterfall can sometimes be reduced to a fine spray or even run dry. In such cases, the local operator may propose an alternative route or activity, possibly at additional cost, which will be discussed with you in advance. Even when the flow is low, the 400-meter-high viewpoint offers dramatic views of the canyon and surrounding landscape.

    Blue lagoons and an easy walk

    After breakfast you depart on an excursion to two famous blue pools, Poço Encantado and Poço Azul. Short and easy walks lead you to these underground and semi-open lagoons, where shafts of sunlight illuminate the intensely blue, crystal-clear water, creating magical color effects on the rock walls.

    Around midday you are picked up and driven back to your accommodation in Lençóis. The rest of the day is free to relax, stroll through town, or enjoy local restaurants and cafés at your own rhythm.
