After breakfast at the hotel you head straight to Cairo’s most iconic sights: the Pyramids of Giza, the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World. For almost 4,000 years their striking shape, flawless geometry and sheer size have raised the same questions: how and why were they built? Your guide will explain the history and funerary role of these royal tombs.

Nearby you will admire the legendary Great Sphinx, carved from a natural rock outcrop and stretching around 45 metres in length. You will then visit a papyrus institute to learn how paper was produced in antiquity, followed by a visit to the papyrus museum.

In the afternoon you return to your hotel in Cairo for the night.

During this immersive day you will visit key religious and historic landmarks such as Old Cairo, the Amr Ibn al-As Mosque, the Ahmed Ibn Tulun Mosque and the Salah El-Din Citadel.

You continue to the Hanging Church and the Abu Serga Church, important Coptic Christian sites, before discovering the Ben Ezra Synagogue, which reflects Cairo’s Jewish heritage. Along the way you have the opportunity to sample local food and soak up the atmosphere of the old streets.

In the evening you are transferred back to your hotel in Cairo for overnight.
