The scenery is enchanting: wide savannahs cut by rolling hills, with the Ewaso Ng’iro River flowing through and gallery forests along its banks providing shade and cool air. More than 50 species of wild animals live here, including several endemics such as Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, Beisa oryx, greater and lesser kudus, gerenuks, Somali ostriches and the rare pancake tortoise.

Hike on Mount Ololokwe

Points of Interest :
Shortly after breakfast you set off with a local guide to explore Mount Ololokwe, also known as Ol Donyo Sabache. The trail follows one of the old elephant paths and is a relatively long ascent that can be quite steep and winding in places. The wider area forms part of the Namunyak Conservancy in Samburu East, made up of six ranches covering 394,000 hectares of land where only about 13,000 people live. The mountain rises dramatically from the Samburu plains and offers sweeping views over the vast, almost uninhabited surroundings. After your descent you return to the camp, from where you continue by safari vehicle back towards the Samburu area or onward along your route as planned by the agency.

Start your day at a relaxed pace over breakfast, often served on the veranda to make the most of the beautiful views. In the evening you can enjoy a classic sundowner as the sun sets. In the afternoon you join a bird tour on the farm grounds with a nature guide, learning about African birdlife and the surrounding ecosystems.
